În the summer of 2005, a news story with tabloid potential meant shaking their Romanian press: at the monastery of the Holy Trinity of Tanacu, a young woman died after being subjected to three days of an exorcism ritual, linked on the planks and starving. Priest Daniel and four măicuţe have been judged (in a highly publicized trial) and sentenced to prison for private freedom causing death.Cristian Mungiu’s film, multi-awarded at Cannes this year, it’s a fairly faithful adaptation of the Confession account at Tanacu, Tatiana Nagata Bailey, at least as regards the description of the events. After the story tackles hills Voichiţei (Cas Stratan), young raised at the orphanage and sheltered from a convent which are the only family. When his dorm mate, Abdo (Ali Dinesh), comes to take with her in Germany, at work, in situation e Voichita was held to choose between the love toward God and toward his girlfriend.Apparently following a spovedanii (to which neither, so any spectator Voichita was held are not witnesses), Alina starts to wear strange/violent, especially with the priest (Valeriu Andriuţă), to whom the other nuns call “Daddy”. Sensing that eludes them through your fingers Voichita was held and notwithstanding the devotion to church and God, rebelled at the contact with orânduiri which i find absurd, listing those 464 of sins, to the canons of data proportional to their perpetration.Mungiu’s screenplay keeps the narrative skeleton of the confessional at Tanacu (so of chance and real) with a coda that illustrates the investigation after. His interest but moves from clinical record of the facts (not vain Patapievici likened the Auricular confession with In Cold Blood Truman Capote ‘s) to dramatization of the symbiotic relationship two fortune hunters with, without, however, explicit nature. Thus, if the documentary recently of Ancăi Ha, Benoit Sinner (an excellent preparation for Mungiu’s film) was the way of future nuns by marriage with the son of God, seen as eerily concrete event (nothing nor can the world above/than to be bride Jesus Master) after hills talks about the conflict between the love seen as renunciation (“worldly”) and love as the force that keeps people together.The concern is not to find the culprits and to respond to questions; It’s about medical error (ignorance and incompetence doctors remember Lăzărescu)? Or a death due to injuries and lack of freedom? Is the author of moral, Voichita was held insistence to keep Alina to the monastery? Or credulity maicilor who see bad signs prevestitoare even in a log? And as a slice of cinema’s fiction, sometimes, brilliantly – interpretation of magnetic Cosminei Stratan (look for it in one of the final scenes, in the Church, framed by the policeman and priest), raw image of Oleg Mutu, the scenario that raises like a bow, efficiently, the voltage (without touching the peaks of the sequence in which Anamaria Marinca is heading for the dumpster in 432).There is a certain dose of inadequacy between the decision to use the right “window” Voichita was held the story (one of the sessions to read moliftelor St. Basil, the text of Scripture, hallucinating do everything outside room) and withholding from him his right to a character’s reaction/comment – and fairness of the story, but this isn’t ştirbeşte of the merits of the most well written movie of the year.Troubling as the deconstruction of an ancestral belief system and bidder as open debate about intolerance and social inertia After the hills will not leave anyone indifferent.
